Sathiyasuthan (Sathi for short) has joined our structural team.  He has worked in Singapore, Europe and Sri Lanka.  We asked him a few questions.

What factors contributed to you becoming an engineer?
My father was a technical officer in the Building department. When I was growing up, he would share his great love for solving mathematical equations and other types of puzzles. It is the main reason I became an engineer.  I also have a passion for exploring how something is built and the physics behind it.

What type of structural projects are you interested in?
No specific type of project. I’m always interested to face new challenges on any structural projects.

What attracted you to working with us?
I’d like to work with a Company that is growing quickly and has an exciting future. I was also attracted to its multicultural community and the pipe line of projects that are already being worked on.

Is there a book or movie that has made an impact on your life?
There are many books and movies that I have read or watched that has left a impression on me, however  “The Alchemist” is my favourite.
Some of the lines from it that I think are really helpful in giving hope and inspiring for me are

“The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.”
“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
“People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”

Who inspires you?
My parents are true inspiration for me.  They’ve always supported me and encouraged me to carry out my dreams. They overcame difficulties and have achieved success by perseverance and patience.  One thing I have learnt from them is that you should never stop trying and as they say “try try till you fly”.  They are the best gifts in my life.
